NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF FLAMENCO

Founded by the Encinias family in 1982, the National Institute of Flamenco is a non-profit organization (501c3) dedicated to flamenco education and performance. Each year, the Institute serves over 1,000 students through educational initiatives and reaches an audience of over 65,000 through performance and arts outreach.

Master instructors and performers visit Albuquerque each year through Festival Flamenco Alburquerque and the University of New Mexico Artist-in-Residence Program, students ages 3-80 study year-round at the Conservatory of Flamenco Arts, while professional artists perform and train with Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company, whose members also perform regularly at Tablao Flamenco Albuquerque. Through its collaborations with the University of New Mexico and Tierra Adentro Charter School, the National Institute of Flamenco has truly created the most vibrant center for flamenco found anywhere outside of Spain.
